FAQs
The questions we get asked most, answered honestly.
Can I get the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in Liverpool?
Yes, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers Liverpool and all of England and Wales.
Does the grant cover solar panels or battery storage?
No. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme applies to heat pumps only. If you're looking at solar or battery, there's separate 0% VAT relief that applies until March 2027, but no grant.
Do I need an EPC to apply?
No. This was a requirement until April 2026 and has since been removed. If you don't have a valid EPC, we'll use alternative evidence such as a recent utility bill and photos of your existing system.
Do I get the £7,500 myself or does it come off the price?
It comes off the price. As your MCS-certified installer, we apply for the grant and deduct it directly from your quote, so the figure you're quoted is already the reduced price. You never handle the grant paperwork or the money yourself.
Is there a deadline to apply?
The scheme runs to 2030, with funding increasing each year, so there's no immediate deadline. The one exception is the £9,000 off-grid uplift for oil and LPG homes, which is time-bound to 31 March 2027.
Can I still get the grant if I've had other funding before, like ECO4?
Usually, yes. Previous funding for insulation or other home improvements doesn't affect your eligibility. The exception is if you've already received government funding specifically for a heat pump or biomass boiler, in which case you won't qualify again.
What if I already have a heat pump?
The grant is for switching away from a fossil fuel or electric system, not for upgrading an existing heat pump, so it wouldn't apply in that case.
